Preparing for and managing in an emergency

We assess the risk of incidents occurring and develop plans to:

  • deal with emergencies;
  • ensure business continuity;
  • give people information about civil protection and warn, inform and advise the public in the event of an emergency;
  • share information and collaborate with other local organisations.

Our emergency plan, business continuity plan and related plans are tested regularly and kept up to date.

We work closely with emergency planning professionals in other local organisations and with the Sussex Resilience Forum which maintains a register of community risks in the county and develops plans to manage any incidents that may arise from them.

NHS Brighton and Hove also has a plan in place for dealing with a flu pandemic.

General information about pandemic flu from the Health Protection Agency.

If you have any emergency planning/resilience-related enquiries please contact resilience manager Kevin Claxton (kevin.claxton@bhcpct.nhs.uk, 01273 574732 ).
