If so, NHS Sussex and Brighton and Hove City Council want to hear them.

The two organisations have started an eight week consultation aimed at discovering residents’ views about community mental health support across the city.

The results will be used by NHS Sussex and Brighton and Hove City Council to target people and groups most at risk, and develop plans that reflect local opinion about the most important priorities for improving mental health.

Views will be collected through online and paper questionnaires, at meetings of people who currently use community mental health services, via social media, and through discussions with a wide range of local voluntary and community groups.

The consultation follows a review of community mental health support which concluded that services for the city have evolved over time without any clear plan. As a result they neither fit together as well as they might nor provide a comprehensive response to local needs.

'We know that we need to redesign mental health services so that they deal with the city's mental health needs better and support people to recover from mental health problems as well as provide the best value for money.  This consultation will help us achieve that.' said Dr. Tom Scanlon, Director of Public Health

“We have lots of ideas about how we might do that but want to hear what local people think before we go any further. Obviously we’d like to hear their views about our plans but we are also keen to hear what new, different suggestions they have.”

Printed copies of the questionnaire are available on request form contacting FREEPHONE  08000 013 0251 or by email to brightonandhovepals@nhs.net
